What I've been upto:

Playing CryoFall on Steam!

  • I bought the game on sale for only $7.99 but it has gone back up to its original $19.99 for now.

  • I'm not sure when it will be on sale again.

  • The cool thing is that they offer you a demo worth of 8 hours where you can play the full version of the game to see if you like it.

ABOUT THIS GAME

CryoFall is Sci-Fi multiplayer survival game set on a forgotten planet in a distant future.

Description

Welcome to the world of CryoFall, where a catastrophic crash landing has stranded you — and dozens of others — millions of light-years from home, trapped on a hostile planet and in constant danger.

Your only hope for survival is to make use of the resources around you as you develop your skills and advance your technology to conquer this new land, tame its harsh wilderness and build a new life for you and those who have found themselves marooned on CryoFall.

Together with many other survivors you can create your own cities, establish an active economy, industry and agriculture, or pillage the fruit of labor of fellow survivors.

Features

  • Complex crafting and industrial system, including oil refining & lithium extraction

  • Various stages of technological progress (primitive, industrial, modern, post-modern, sci-fi)

  • Farming with complex crop growth simulation, fertilizers, etc. & diverse cooking options

  • Official and community-hosted PvP and PvE servers

  • Electricity system with power grid simulation. You can build a number of generators, storage structures and electricity consumers

  • Various vehicles to explore the world faster or use in combat

  • Bionic and cybernetic implants to augment your character with new abilities or boost stats

  • Wide range of player interactions and roles with meaningful specialization options, emphasizing meaningful interactions rather than just combat

  • Economy with coin minting, complex trading and automated vending machines managed by players

  • Carefully hand-crafted maps and locations (+ map editor)

  • Diverse environments with several biomes (temperate, desert, tropical, boreal, wasteland, etc.)

  • In-house developed Renkei Engine™, allowing hundreds of players on the same server

  • Complex character simulation with a multitude of status effects (e.g. bleeding, poisoning, radiation, etc.)

  • Extensive modding capabilities, including real-time code editing

What I like about it so far:

  • I like the community , the global chat on my server is very active and helpful.

  • I like the fact that there is a player driven market and a currency.

  • The graphics are a different and fun style that is not demanding on less powerful gaming rigs.

What I don't like:

  • I wish the gardening plots would last longer

  • I wish it did not feel so grindy regarding how many reagents you have to farm to make something. It definitely has a robust crafting system, but sometimes I get burnt out on that.

  • I wish there were more customization available for characters and housing.

  • I'm sure they will add this stuff as this is an early access game.

  • I wouldn't have bought it for $19.99 at this point, but I would have bought it for $14.99 but happy I found it for $7.99.

Blizzard warns that BlizzCon 2020 'might not be feasible' due to coronavirus

Blizzard is still planning to hold its annual fan convention in Anaheim this November, but warned today that the event could be cancelled if the coronavirus pandemic still prevents large gatherings at that time. Like the rest of us, they just don't know how things are going to play out.

"While we're all hopeful things will look better later in the year, the bottom line is that at this point it's too early to know whether BlizzCon 2020 will be feasible," BlizzCon executive producer Saralyn Smith wrote in an update. "The health of our community, employees, and everyone who helps with the show is our top consideration. It might be a few months before we know for certain if or how we’ll proceed, but as soon as we have a meaningful update, we’ll share it."

According to an Article on Gamespot by Hayley Williams, New Gaming TV Network Hastens Launch As Esports Take The Spotlight

  • The founders of VENN are hoping to take advantage of the increased visibility around gaming and esports caused by the coronavirus pandemic

  • Ariel Horn and Ben Kusin are the entrepreneurs behind VENN (Video Game Entertainment and News Network), an MTV-style startup looking to cover all things games and esports.

  • Horn was quoted saying "Our core thesis is to deliver a 24/7 linear network for the streaming generation," Horn previously worked on esports at Riot Games.

  • Among those who have invested in VENN are Riot co-chairman Marc Merrill and Mike Morhaime, co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment.

  • While the initial launch will be on YouTube and Twitch, the pair are also looking to make the leap to TV in some form or another, with talks underway with smart TV makers, subscription services, and pay-TV companies.

Valorant

From their website ( https://beta.playvalorant.com/en-us/ ) it says

  • “ Imagine this: tactical shooter meets hypernatural powers. Everyone’s got guns and a unique set of abilities, so how do you beat someone with the speed of wind? Use your own moves to outplay them and beat them to the shot. VALORANT is a game for bold strategists who dare to make the unexpected play, because if it wins, it works.’

  • Shooting in VALORANT is precise, consequential, and highly-lethal - we want you to win on your skill and strategy alone.

  • Releases in Summer 2020

  • Valorant will be free to play with cosmetic purchases.

  • VALORANT is starting its rolling Closed Beta on April 7th, beginning with Canada, United States, Turkey, Russia, and Europe. We’ll roll out to other parts of the world in the months thereafter.

  • If you're on twitter, then your timeline might look like mine.

  • My timeline is filled with those still loving their life in Animal Crossing New Horizons and those streamers who have got beta invites for this new game called Valorant as well as streamers trying to act like they are not bothered by not getting a beta invite or those sharing that they are down right now happy about missing out on a beta invite.

  • THe Fomo has been real for people!

I think a part of this might be the way they are to acquire a beta invite which seems a bit sketchy to me. According the website you get a chance to get an invite by :

1-Getting a Riot account, 2-link it with a Twitch account, and 3-watch streams for a chance to get in

  • I can see why there has been a lot of strong feelings based around this game and getting beta invites. It can be very frustrating to be tethered to watching other streamers playing a game that you want to play but can’t in order to possibly get sent a beta invite. It is not only like rubbing salt into your FOMO wound but it can be extremely anxiety inducing for some.

  • Looking at the company, It seems like they are kinda buying views this way? As a dev studio I can see why it is a win win way to go. As a consumer, the feeling of being led by a carrot on a string to maybe get a reward can feel a bit demeaning for some.

  • I'm a fan of the usual ways gamers typically get beta invites, by registering for them on the games website. It seems less messy.

  • From a streamers outlook, this can be a cool thing though because it can give you more of an opportunity to get eyes on your stream and to potentially pick up some more followers and subs :)

  • Either way, there's a new fun looking game set to release this summer ! Register for a beta or don't, it's up to you!

COREPUNK!

  • They plan to start an Open Beta Test in Q4 2020.

  • Corepunk is being developed by Artificial Core.

  • Corepunk is an MMORPG with an open seamless world that allows for endless possibilities. You can explore the world, participate in trading, complete dungeons, or engage in PvP battles. Each aspect of the game will be incentivised. There will be a rating system to encourage each type of activity.

  • They've settled on Buy-to-play + cosmetics (battle passes, in-game shop). We will not sell any boosters. Nothing that can affect your gameplay. Only cosmetic items can be bought through in-game shop or achieved with battle passes.

  • Corepunk is a game with stylized graphics, a post-apocalyptic atmosphere, and an eclectic fusion of genres - from cyberpunk to dark fantasy.

  • Corepunk throws players into a huge open world shrouded in the fog of war. Each of the game’s classes will explore a new world, never knowing what lurks in among the darkness.

  • For the PvP inclined folk there will be Arenas and Battlegrounds. Furthermore, PvP in an open world combined with fog of war will provide a completely new gaming experience.

  • PvE is planned to have dungeons both for solo mode and groups of up to 4 people, randomly generated dungeons, raids, mini bosses, world bosses, wandering bosses and a camp system with advanced open world AI, that will challenge players. Most importantly - we're focusing on the experience of exploring a highly elaborate and detailed world.

  • Players will fit into one of four factions. The Elanien Kingdom, the clans of Faidens, the Yorners, and the Quaddari reflect the massive diversity afforded to players in this game and the mix of humor, action, and a deep mystery that surrounds the fate of Kwalat

Community Spotlight

During my travels through the gaming community this weeks via social media, forums, and websites I have decided to share some of what I've Found with you! :)

What Should We call it?

Closing Thought

As we go into our gaming realms this week, let us be intentional and mindful with our actions.

  • Let's ask ourselves some important questions.

  • Are we putting the Kingdom of God before the norms of our culture?

  • If someone looked at us, could they tell if we are a Christian by the games we play, the music we listen to? The words we say?

  • Did you know that our attention is currency?

  • Who and what are you paying all of your attention to and why?

Remember Romans 12:2

  • Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
